Artist – Warren Langley
Photography – Richard Glover
Artist Warren Langley engaged Tilt for technical assistance with pre-production for his latest artwork "Wolli" which is based upon the light reflections off ripples in nearby Wolli Creek. Delivering a gentle, sensory, optimistic experience in the pedestrian underpass for WestConnex.
Tilt worked with Warren to develop the concept’s structural shape. The artist’s vision was conceptualised digitally through CAD in order to develop the flowing lines representing the water.
Exploring the geometry with the artist in 3D was paramount to understanding the form in relation to the scale of the site location.
This process of digitally creating the artwork in 3D also provided fabrication data for each of the 123 profiles that made up the sculpture.
Tilt also provided technical assistance to the fabricator on behalf of the artist.
The artwork’s organic form and flowing nature was a challenge to translate digitally.
The development of a single master pattern provided the basis of all 123 profiles, which allowed each unique curve to flow from one profile to the next without taking vast amounts of processing time and refinement while still meeting the artist’s complex design intent.
Changing the perspective of the tunnel, the suspended lighting sculpture transforms the pedestrian freeway Kindilan underpass in Beverly Hills.
