With Parramatta’s rapid and ongoing transformation into Sydney’s second CBD, Westpac’s office at Parramatta Square is situated in the heart of the booming commercial precinct. The landmark JPW development comprises the ‘6&8 Parramatta Square’ towers and sets an impressive precedent with its premium A-grade facilities.
Westpac’s outdoor terrace, nestled between the 6&8 Parramatta Square towers, provides an additional break-out space for employees as well as creates the opportunity to be outdoors. With its high exposure on level 29, shade structures were specified to create cooler spaces to gather.
Working with Arcadia Landscape Architects, two freestanding shade structures were designed and constructed for the Westpac terrace to protect its users and create a more usable space. Each shelter includes steel supports, a powder-coated aluminium panel with a perforated design, and laminated glass panels to create a weatherproof cover.

Tilt provided detailed design services to consider the range of manufacturing options for each proposed element, construction methodology and a high-level budgetary analysis. The detailed design highlighted prefabricated steel as the preferred material to provide the best outcome and support the installation tolerances and methodology.
The shade structures at 6&8 Parramatta Square transform the alfresco terrace into a functional place for Westpac employees and visitors to enjoy the outdoors while being sheltered from the elements. The terrace is a considered and well planned space, matching Westpac’s impressive interiors, which achieved a 6 Star Green Star Interiors certification.
