Background
Alex Urena Design Studio approached Tilt to provide a solution to enable rooftop access linking the café/bar and accommodate a rooftop terrace space.
An addition of a custom roof access skylight joined the indoor/outdoor space presenting almost double the dining capacity while redeeming additional natural light and ventilation throughout.

Key challenges
The roof access skylight extends from a standard architectural staircase, uniting the indoor and outdoor space of the café/bar.
As part of a commercial roof access compliance, the staircase required a handrail on either side, increasing the skylight’s size requirements.
Tilt worked alongside the project’s team to ensure the custom designed skylight would suit those dimensions and perform at its maximum capacity without compromising both aesthetics and technical ability.

The solution
The Fitz combines an authentic industrial feel with exposed heritage features. The roof access skylight adds a contemporary feature to the café & bar with exposed metal surfaces and high-tech materials.
The result provided a seamless extension, creating rooftop dining possibilities and expanded function space.
