'Neon Terrains' uses delicate threads of light to shift the perspective of sculpture and installation, creating a new way to experience its illuminated floral forms.
Glen Huntly’s railway crossing was removed as part of the Victorian State Government’s Level Crossing Removal Project to make way for the new Metro train, improving safety and travel throughout Melbourne. The new station’s design reflects the heritage of the precinct by using brick, bluestone and granite and features a concourse with integrated seating and landscape, creating a communal space for locals.
Neon Terrains is the hero feature at Glen Huntly station and is comprised of two works in the series, Everlasting and Love Creeper, depicting local flora species. The site-specific artwork aims to enhance the experience of travellers and delight the senses with its vibrant strokes suspended in space.
Tilt worked with Meagan to develop her concept through detailed design and engineering and managed the fabrication process and site installation.
Working with Meagan’s concepts, Tilt refined the work through a detailed design process to help transform her gallery art into a safe and functional piece that matched her creative vision. Tilt provided drawings showing the integration with the site and surrounding structures and managed the fabrication of the light tubes. At the time of installation, Meagan was onsite with Tilt to work together on bringing her works to life.
“Neon Terrains’ is a playful and dynamic public artwork that contributes to the unique identity of Glen Huntly Station. Both Everlasting and Love Creeper will stand as illuminated beacons for the surrounding natural landscape and add to the cultural fabric of Glen Huntly through surprising elements of colour and neon light.’
