A luxury summer residence with rooftop living and tranquil views accessed through a custom operable skylight and hidden staircase within the walls of a narrow hallway.
Boston based architectural firm, Monte French Design Studio, approached Tilt to design a custom skylight for a mid-century modern house in Chatham USA.
The rooftop access point lies within a narrow hallway inside, making a standard, permanent staircase impossible.
An annex-style pull-down ladder was also deemed unsuitable, as its steeper access compromised usability and safety.
As a result, the architects designed an innovative solution – a retractable staircase that met standard dimension specifications and would slide into the wall when not in use, keeping the narrow hallway clear and allowing convenient rooftop access when required.
Tilt’s Skylight was integrated to meet the length specifications required with quality and aesthetics that matched the architects design.
