Emulating liquorice allsorts, this unique play space is made up of modular cubes and hosts a number of exciting play elements for children.
Working closely with Arcadia Landscape Architecture, Tilt was first asked to undertake a design study. This included 3D renders to explore their concept of a liquorice allsorts playground that references the former Darrell Lea Chocolate Factory which once occupied the site.
Tilt needed to consider the restricted and unusual shape of the site when designing the equipment to ensure it was positioned in an efficient way.
Through clever design, the play structure provides clear paths of play in multiple directions, resulting in no wasted areas or dead ends.
We paid particular attention to the interface between each play element, the standards and performance requirements as well as high ‘play value’ and opportunities for interaction between children and their parents.
The result is a leisure area that catches the eye and provides a safe, engaging environment for children to play and parents to interact.
Playgrounds are often where communities come alive. They also present a formidable design challenge to balance design appeal, functionality and safety with long-term relevance.
