Biophillia inspired – the design and experience of Q Pod provides a unique quiet space with hidden technologies. Conceptualised by a Sydney startup.
Tilt was engaged to bring to life the first Q Pod chair from a concept sketch which was conceptualised into 3D renders by Killing Matt Woods, a renowned Australian Industrial Designer specialising in furniture design.
Tilt’s brief was furthering the detail and identifying solutions to refine the concept, and enable for manufacture of the first Q Pod.
Tilt undertook a path of form studies to realise the design of the chair through a process to ensure functionality and fundamental usability were considered while identifying the aesthetic requirements the client had specified.
A key challenge was connection issues within the frame structure. The design is made up of angles towards and away from each other, which form the pod shell shape.
Development of 3D renders and prototyping identified an opportunity for a unique assembly method of the complex geometries.
We could incorporate all of our initial design goals, quality, function, and aesthetics in the final product, and the original concept idea maintained.
Q Pod is a one-of-a-kind pod chair crafted in quality materials, that interlock, providing a comfortable and supportive experience for the user and ease of production.
The design has also enabled intelligent technologies to be housed and operable within the pod structure discreetly for the best possible sensory experience.
