Photography – Brett BoardmanTilt collaborated with the architects to design and develop custom operable pivoting windows that offer the homeowners light-filled living and an all-weather terrace.

Background
The windows were to pivot upwards to create shelter for the outside terrace and provide light-filled living when closed. The counterbalanced mechanics were to be exposed to create an industrial aesthetic. Tilt also needed to ensure wind loads in the exposed location and operational safety parameters were properly considered.

A great partnership between panovscott Architects. The design provides a functioning space full of natural light that opens to panoramic views of Sydney Harbour.

The solution
The design features a series of three 4.3m x 3.2m windows. The counterbalanced system is fully automated, utilising expressed mechanical gears and chains to create the unique industrial aesthetic. Tilt was also engaged to design a set of complementary large-format doors, opening out onto an adjoining terrace space.
