  • Architectural features that respond to the climatic conditions and characteristics of a site

As climate concerns increase globally, building designs are required to adapt to ever-changing environmental situations.

  • The opportunity to deliver functional and visually-beautiful features which suit the overall architectural objective and meet thermal performance is often challenging due to the limited proprietary products available which, if obtainable, often fails to meet function and design aesthetics while addressing building codes.

Tilt provides architects an opportunity to meet those requirements (function, beauty, and support thermal compliances) through smart architecturally designed features specifically developed for a site and its character.

Operable elements such as screens, louvre systems, and rooftop access skylights provide an opportunity for thermal performance in commercial spaces and residential homes.

  • Residential Design Project Decorative operable facade opening and closing screens
  • Benefits of operable elements to address climate conditions include:

    Minimised temperature fluctuations

When we consider the warmer months when, –warm air rises, a building can be cooled by designing for stack ventilation by drawing cooler air from openings low in the building. Integration of operable screens and skylights can enable heat transfer to be carried away through openings achieving natural ventilation.

Solar heating occurs in the cooler or shaded periods, and the sun’s natural warmth is brought into the space, allowing for a comfortable temperature.

Saving energy with increased natural light

Not only can temperature be managed, but an increase in the amount of natural light is a key benefit to adding louvres or an operable sunshade to a space, in turn reducing the over-reliance on artificial lighting.
