Sky House, in Sydney’s inner-suburban East Redfern listed House of the year 2020 – Habitus
Designed with sustainability at heart, Sky house features a sliding roof detailed by Tilt in collaboration with Marra + Yeh.
-
Architects Marra + Yeh approached Tilt to provide a sliding roof with a thermal performance solution whilst being aesthetically sound.
The main design objective was to ensure heating and cooling was achieved, whilst being environmentally efficient.
So effective that it reduced the requirement for air conditioning providing ample seasonal climate control including the peaks of the heated Australian climate.
The operable sliding roof was designed with two main features: high performance double-glazed glass and a retractable shading system.
-
Double glazed glass allows for the temperature to be controlled throughout the home whilst minimising noise. The incorporated retractable shading system provides a protective outdoor area, whilst reducing solar -heat gain.
An increase of natural light reduces the over reliance of artificial lighting and illuminates the living space.
A key feature of the home, our sliding roof design provides a dynamic response to the climatic changes. Whilst increasing natural light into the home and integrating into the architecture seamlessly.
