Commencing a career in industrial design, Alex did not anticipate the opportunity to combine his passions for art, design, and architecture – however, that is exactly where his pathway at Tilt has led him.
As Design Manager, within Tilt’s Public Art team, Alex works directly with the artist to develop outcomes aligned to the artistic intent while also considering design criteria such as material and manufacturing constraints, budgets, and timelines.
“Finding the most optimal design solution is always a personal goal for each project,” Alex explains.
Alex thrives under pressure, which is necessary for the fast-paced demands of the Public Art sector. Whether assisting in the sculpting process, developing CAD models, detailing fabrication drawings, or installing artworks, the design process is similar for each project however the requirements from each brief are unique.
“There is something very rewarding about taking a concept from a napkin sketch all the way to tightening the last bolt on-site – it’s a gratifying experience.
Tilt’s design process enables us as designers to develop a more in-depth understanding of the people at the heart of our projects.”
Furthermore, Alex also enjoys managing Tilt’s internal industry event calendar and remains current to support industry creatives and encourage his peers.
“Helping award-winning artists like Blak Douglas, Ramesh Mario Nithiyendran, Louise Zhang, and Simon Reece realise their artistic visions is a career path that I didn’t know was possible, but now I can’t see myself doing anything else”
